Councillor John Frudd said ‘A local resident asked me about the sighting of a bus shelter outside the Cat and Fiddle Pub. He went on to point out that there are other less frequently used bus stops in the area which have shelters. Councillor Frudd went on to say ‘I think the resident has a very fair and valid point. I along with my fellow Labour Councillors will try our best to have one provided.’ This is a very busy bus stop, and caters very much for the Derby Flyer which runs very frequently’.

The Friends of Kirk Hallam Lake and Meadows coordinated another successful Lakeside Festival for local folk last week.
The dust has settled now from last Sundays’ last minute rush to erect gazebo’s, welcome stall holders, assist all to settle in their place and wait for the Kirk Hallam public to arrive!
I think it is fair to say that the event went without any major hitch, many people turned out to join in the ‘nature’ themed fun, admire the beautiful lakeside and surrounding natural environment, listen to the wonderful street organ music & chill, or to see what other things the area has to offer, such as the new sports hall facility and to find out about the new OZ Box sessions starting at the community sports rooms soon.
I hope you enjoyed the day’s events, the team behind the scenes did an admirable job from finding the funding, getting out the invites, to meeting and greeting all stall holders and helping to set up and clear up at the beginning and the end of the day.
I am sure you will join me to thank everyone for their support, special thanks this year, to Oliver Dickinson, Friends Volunteer who helped out financially, sponsoring the Festival with his donation to the funds from his new business venture.
[take a look at his website?]

I would like to wish him all the very best with this.

A local resident phoned Cllr Michelle Booth to complain about the negative publicity currently going out about the new MULTI USE GAMES AREA at Kirk Hallam.
Apparently, a recent Council press release featured comments about the new facility and some problems associated with the area.
Cllr Louis Booth says’ I am sorry that the council seem keen to spread bad news which could potentially label many of our local young people as badly behaved, the problems refer to a small percentage of youngsters and DOES NOT represent Kirk Hallam youth in general and the press office would have been better advised if they had spoken to local members first before issuing such negative statements’.
Local Kirk Hallam Councillors John Frudd, Louis Booth and Steve Green have a very good working relationship with the Police and have made sure that all reports made to them of problems, misdemeanour’s and anti social behaviour are recorded with the Police Team and they have asked that the new facility is visited more often so that everyone can keep track on what is happening at the site.
It is more productive to work with the council’s partners to establish what can be achieved together instead of just giving oxygen to poor behaviour by a minority.
Cllr John Frudd says ’’Local Residents are encouraged to phone for police assistance any time they feel it is necessary for that extra level of support or back up and past experience has told us that we must report everything of concern to the police or the proper authority, so that a general picture is built up and issues tackled with a clear view of what is going on and when it is happening.’’
Please feel free to call 0345123 33 33 to request extra police presence or report a problem OR phone 0115 907 22 44 to ask for any of your councillors to contact you.

I am delighted with this wonderful Garden Creation at Kirk Hallam, many thanks to Riverside Housing Association. They have listened to local residents and spoke to them to get their input and ideas for this Community Garden which features logs cut from the local beauty spot known as the Lakeside and Meadow, wild flowers and raised bed planting.
What a difference it has made to the empty space that once stood here!
